About Me | Kate McCallum, is an award-winning, forward-thinking producer, writer, and digital arts and media strategist with an emphasis in IP development, transmedia and new media technology platforms. Kate has also pursued a lifelong interest in human potential and consciousness, and in 2004, earned an MA in Consciousness Studies from the University of Philosophical Research in Los Angeles. Kate is a member of the PGA: Producers Guild of America where she served as a Board Delegate for two three-year terms on the PGA New Media Council, three years on the PGA National Board, was awarded the 2019 Marc A. Levey Award for exceptional service to the PGA, and as Co-Chair helped spearhead the launch of the PGA Social Impact Entertainment Task Force through which they have produced several events including collaborations with the United Nation Creative Community Outreach Initiative. Kate is a member of the WFSF: World Future Studies Federation, The Chair of the Arts and Media Node for The Millennium Project, serves on the Scientific Council of the Alternative Planetary Futures Institute, and is a member of the Advisory Board of The SIE Society. In 2004, Kate founded her own development and multi-media production company, Bridge Arts Media, LLC, and consults with a variety of clients including; Vortex Immersion Media, a company specializing in fulldome 360/VR immersive content and experience design, immersive brand experiences, VR, interactive, live mixed-media performances, and projection mapping. Kate established the Vortex AIR: Artist-in-Residence program, and innovation lab in the Vortex Dome CineTheater at Los Angeles Center Studios. Her most recent projects are: Producer for a VR museum exhibition experience for The Fetzer Institute. and she is the Content Strategist and Producer of musician James Hood’s Mesmerica and Beautifica, award-winning 360 fulldome art+music projects with Moodswings, LLC and Vortex that she has been involved in distributing across the US and Canada in fulldome venues. Kate is currently at work producing and prepping another fulldome project, also by James Hood, and she is also served as Creative Producer on the award-winning fulldome short, The Journey. In October 2021, Kate launched the first DOME FEST WEST immersive media festival as Co-Founder, Producer and Advisory Board Member. Prior, Kate spent 20 years at Universal and Paramount Studios working in development and production of feature films, and broadcast and cable episodic television with top showrunners and writers in the industry on such shows as; Miami Vice, Law & Order, Equalizer, Gimme a Break, Charles in Charge and The Marshal to name a few. She produced a TV Movie for NBC called What Kind of Mother Are You? and as VP of Creative for Western Sandblast at Paramount, Kate developed and sold TV movies and off-net series concepts to outlets such as Showtime and UPN. She has produced and or written for traditional, digital and immersive media, produced live events, industry conferences, educational workshops, concerts, books, music albums, and from 2015 to 2021 she served as managing editor and contributing writer for the SOC’s (Society of Camera Operators) quarterly Camera Operator magazine. Kate’s also been an international guest speaker, and or instructor on the topics of “The Transformational Power of Arts and Media,” “Future Trends in Media and Entertainment,“ “Immersive Media,” and “The Art and Craft of Transmedia Storytelling” at the such events or institutions as the; IONS, Hong Kong Design Institute, Singapore Media Academy, the Asian Children’s Content Conference, XMedia LAB in Australia, the China Science Film and Video Association in Shenzhen, China, and TiE Global Summit in Mumbai, India to name a few. She co-produced and presented “Transmedia Storytelling and Strategy Design” for the PGA and the TV Academy, and was a featured speaker at the Global Leaders Forum in Seoul, Korea addressing the “Future of Entertainment and Media.” Kate was awarded an Alumni Achievement Award from Western Michigan University where she majored in Communications and Music, and was appointed as an honorary fellow at SNCR: Society for New Communication Research. She recently co-authored with Dr. Jacquelyn Morie a book published by IGI Publishing, “The Handbook of Research and the Roles and Impact of Immersive Media,” and a screenplay she co-wrote about the life of St. Hildegard von Bingen was recently optioned and is in development. |
