    Michel Odent, MD, was in charge of the surgical and maternity units at the Pithiviers (France) state hospital (1962-1985). For many years he was the only doctor in charge of about 1,000 births a year. He is the founder of the Primal Health Research Centre (London). His latest book of many is entitled The Future of Homo.

    Peter was educated at Trinity College Cambridge where he obtained an Honours Degree in Natural Science. His clinical medical training was carried out at St Thomas’s Hospital in London. After obtaining experience in neurosurgery he specialised in psychiatry. He is Senior Lecturer at the Institute of Psychiatry, Consultant Neurophysiologist at Radcliffe Infirmary in Oxford, and Honorary Consultant in Neurophysiology to Broadmoor Special Hospital. He has published numerous scientific papers on brain function and also several papers on meditation and altered states of consciousness. He is also President of the UK branch of the International Association of Near-Death Studies, reflecting his special interest in this field. He lectures widely in England, on the Continent and in the US on brain disorders and has made many appearances on radio and television. His most recent book is The Truth in the Light.

    Pim van Lommel, M.D. worked from 1977-2003 as a cardiologist in Hospital Rijnstate and is now doing full-time research on the mind-brain relation. His key article published in the Lancet in 2001 was entitled Near-death experience in survivors of cardiac arrest: a prospective study in the Netherlands. He was co-founder of the Dutch IANDS in 1988. His Dutch book Endless Consciousness (in English Consciousness beyond Life) has now been translated into eleven languages, and worldwide more than 400.000 copies have been sold. In 2010 he received the 2010 Book Award of the Scientific and Medical Network. His Bigelow essay The Continuity of Consciousness was awarded Second Prize.
