Join David Lorimer for a live panel discussion exploring what happens at the threshold of death — and why a growing body of research suggests the story doesn’t end there. Drawing on decades of work into near-death experiences, shared-death experiences, after-death communications, terminal lucidity, mediumship and reincarnation, our panellists examine phenomena that sit at the edge of what a purely materialist model of consciousness can explain.
This conversation launches Death Is Not the End, an initiative challenging the assumption that consciousness is nothing more than a by-product of brain activity. Rather than treating dying as a taboo subject to be avoided, the panel makes the case for open, rigorous inquiry into what these experiences tell us about the nature of mind, and what it might mean to face mortality without fear.

About the speakers:
David Lorimer is a writer, lecturer and poet who serves as Programme Director of the Scientific and Medical Network and Chair of the Galileo Commission. He is the editor of Paradigm Explorer and has written and edited numerous books on consciousness, science and spirituality.
William J Peters is the founder of the Shared Crossing Project and a psychotherapist specialising in end-of-life experience. He is a leading researcher into shared death experiences, having collected and studied over 400 first-hand accounts.
Felicity Warner is the founder of Soul Midwives and an author specialising in end-of-life spirituality and the nature of consciousness at the threshold of death.
Marjorie Woollacott is Professor of Neuroscience at the University of Oregon, a meditation researcher, and President of the Academy for the Advancement of Post-Materialist Sciences.

David LorimerWriter, Lecturer, Poet, EditorDavid Lorimer, MA, PGCE, FRSA is a visionary polymath and poet, who is Founder of Character Education Scotland, Global Ambassador of the Scientific and Medical Network, Chair of the Galileo Commission and former President of Wrekin Trust and the Swedenborg Society. He has been editor of Paradigm Explorer since 1986. He created the Beyond the Brain conference series in 1995 and has co-ordinated the Mystics and Scientists conferences every year since the late 1980s.
David’s most recent publications are his essays, A Quest for Wisdom (2021), his collection of poems Better Light a Candle (2022), Spiritual Awakenings (2022, edited with Marjorie Woollacott), The Great Upshift (2023, edited with Ervin Laszlo), and The Playful Universe (2024, edited with Marjorie Woollacott and Gary Schwartz). Marjorie WoollacottResearcher, AuthorMarjorie Woollacott, PhD is an Emeritus Professor of Human Physiology, and member of the Institute of Neuroscience, at the University of Oregon. She was chair of the Human Physiology Department for seven years. In addition to teaching courses on neuroscience and rehabilitation, she taught courses on complementary and alternative medicine and meditation. She is Research Director for the International Association of Near-Death Studies (IANDS) and is President of the Academy for the Advancement of Postmaterialist Sciences (AAPS).
Marjorie has published more than 200 scientific articles and written or co-edited eight books. Her latest book, Infinite Awareness describes her research as a neuroscientist with her self-revelations about the mind’s spiritual power. Between the scientific and spiritual worlds, she breaks open the definition of human consciousness to investigate the existence of a non-physical and infinitely powerful mind. She is Co-Chair of the Galileo Commission, co-editor of Spiritual Awakenings and an Honorary Member of the SMN.

William PetersFounder of the Shared Crossing Project, PsychotherapistWilliam Peters, MA, MEd, MFT, is the founder of the Shared Crossing Project whose mission is to positively transform relationships to death and dying through education and raising awareness about extraordinary end-of-life experiences (shared crossings) and their healing benefits. As the director of the Shared Crossing Research Initiative (SCRI), William and his team collect and study shared crossings. William is a global leader in shared death studies and end-of-life phenomenon. He teaches methods to facilitate the shared death experience and to assist experiencers in meaningfully integrating their experiences. William is a psychotherapist at the Family Therapy Institute of Santa Barbara where he specializes in end-of-life counseling as a means toward psycho-spiritual evolution.
William served as a hospice worker with Zen Hospice Project in San Francisco. His work is informed by his two NDEs and a variety of shared crossings. He has presented at the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine’s Annual Conference. William’s work has appeared in the American Journal of Hospice and Palliative Medicine and in Omega – Journal of Death and Dying. William’s book entitled At Heaven’s Door: What Shared Journeys to the Afterlife Teach About Dying Well and Living Better, is published by Simon & Schuster.
