Patrick Celka – The Digital Heart Pulse Wave and Consciousness from a Traditional Tibetan Medicine Perspective

Patrick Celka – The Digital Heart Pulse Wave and Consciousness from a Traditional Tibetan Medicine Perspective

What can we learn from Tibetan Medicine?

For more than 2,500 years, Tibetan culture has evolved influenced by neighbouring countries and local traditions. Medicine is no exception and it has integrated different aspects of Chinese and Indian medicinal systems. Mind and body are considered to form an inseparable whole and their functions are explained using the concept of the Five Elements. The main source of health information for Traditional Tibetan Medicine (TTM) is the heart pulse wave sensed with the physicians’s fingers whereby the elements are quantified and qualified. Modern sensor techniques allow the measurement and interpretation of the pulse wave with unprecedented precision. This opens the door to accessing invaluable information about the mind and the body at once, any time and for as long as we want. I will present the foundation of both TTM and digital pulse wave analysis and show experimental results on how two medicinal approaches can lead to new avenues in science and medicine.

Pat

Patrick Celka has dedicated his life to understanding the laws of nature, initially as a trained mathematical physicist in Belgium and later in Switzerland in the field of nonlinear dynamical systems. His career started in academic institutions in Switzerland and Australia with a main interest in the heart, respiratory, brain and psychological functions. He has published numerous scientific articles and book chapters in the above cited fields. Patrick developed a keen interest in Jungian psychology and especially in synchronicity and symbolism. He undertook a sabbatical year in a Buddhist institute in Italy which led him to encounter Traditional Tibetan Medicine in which he was trained for 4 years. He is co-founder of several companies specialized in the analysis of the heart pulse wave with main focus on physiological monitoring and biofeedback therapy, mixing Holistic Eastern and Analytic Western approaches. Patrick has an interest in studying the nature of consciousness in a theoretical and experiential way. His research in body-mind led him to write several articles mixing Eastern and Western approaches especially dedicated to mental stress, sleep, breathing and consciousness. Patrick practises Tai chi, mindful breathing yoga and was introduced to Dzogchen.
