How can we best enact spiritual activism?

Alastair McIntosh’s books on climate change and its wider human ecology are unusual. He integrates a spiritual understanding of human life with a rigorous scientific approach. He shows that failure to do so can lead to climate science being misused to serve unexpressed otherwise psychological needs. This can displace us from the deeper work of realising our human potential in these times. In this sharing he will tell of his journey into the spiritual, starting as a student 50 years ago when he founded the Aberdeen University Parapsychological Society, moving into development work in the South Pacific, and then to land reform and community empowerment back in Scotland, with climate change mitigation and adaptation a growing part of that.

About the speaker:

Prof Alastair McIntosh is an honorary professor in the College of Social Sciences at the University of Glasgow and the author of books including Soil and Soul (Aurum), Spiritual Activism (Green Books) and the main focus for our evening, both Poacher’s Pilgrimage and Riders on the Storm (Birlinn). His writing has been described as “world changing” by George Monbiot, “an inspiration” by Starhawk, and “truly mental” by Tom Yorke of Radiohead.
