Prof Kate Adams – Children’s Spiritual Experiences: what can we learn from them?
Please note: this event was originally scheduled for 27 March but has been POSTPONED to Wednesday 10 April.
Are we sufficiently prepared to learn from children’s experiences and insights?
In an era of increased interest in spirituality, the focus is primarily on adults. Research with or about children remains relatively limited, despite the fact that many adults recall childhood transformational experiences which have had a lifelong impact on them. This webinar begins by outlining a range of children’s experiences including dreams, and interactions with the deceased and other invisible beings. The narrative unfolds with insights from young people spanning both secular and religious backgrounds, elucidating their interpretations of these experiences. Emphasising interdisciplinary approaches, Kate advocates actively listening to children’s perspectives. Suggestions as to why the interest in children’s spiritual worlds is relatively small compared to those of adults are offered, before reflecting on what we might be able to learn from them.
