Dr Frederick Travis received his PhD in Psychology at Maharishi International University in 1988. After a two-year post-doctoral position in basic sleep research at the University of California Davis, Dr Travis returned to Maharishi International Management as Director of the Center for Brain, Consciousness, and Cognition. His work has focused on brain development from birth to adulthood, effects of stress on brain functioning, effects of meditation on the brain during and after meditation practice (state and trait effects), subjective and objective markers of higher states of consciousness, brain patterns of peak performance and effects of other technologies from the Vedic tradition of India such as yoga asana practice, listening to Vedic recitation, and effects of the built environment on an individual. Fred has published 84 papers and book chapters, and has authored or co-authored four books. He teaches on the under-graduate, masters’, and doctoral levels and lectures globally on brain and consciousness.
