Peter C. Jones is an expert in the dissemination and preservation of archives. He is President of the Josef Breitenbach Foundation; and a publisher; documentary film director and producer; author and fine art photographer.
As President of the Josef and Yaye Breitenbach Foundation, he established the Josef Breitenbach Archive at The Center for Creative Photography in Tucson and became a member of the Board of Fellows. Since 1986 he has organized twenty-nine one-person Josef Breitenbach exhibitions in the United States and Europe and published eleven Breitenbach books. He is a former consultant to The Philadelphia Museum of Art, Aperture Foundation, and the Paul Strand Archive.
His first documentary, A Rising Tide of Silence, about the life and world reach of Father Thomas Keating, who introduced Centering Prayer to a wide western audience, premiered at the 2013 Aspen Film Festival and won the Audience Choice Award. The sequel, Thomas Keating: From The Mind to The Heart, was released in 2018. Both are available on Amazon Prime. Additionally, he edited and published The Secret Embrace by theologian Abbot Thomas Keating.
Bonni Benrubi Gallery in New York mounted two one-person exhibitions of his work, the first based on his book Sweep Out Cottage published by Nazraeli Press. Subsequently, KMR Arts has mounted three one-person exhibitions, most recently Jungle Stories in 2021, each with an accompanying catalogue.
He is the author of The Changing Face of America (Prentice Hall Press) and the co-author of three other books including Social Gardens (Stewart, Tabori & Chang). His photographs, articles, and op-ed pieces have been published by The New York Times Magazine, Connoisseur, Smart Money, Aperture, The Providence Journal, and L’Oeil de la Photographie.
During his career Peter C. Jones has been directly involved in the editing, design, and production of more that sixty-five books and the organization of more than seventy-five exhibitions. He is a regular contributor to L’Oeil de la Photographie, the daily on-line magazine of photography published in French and English. Articles include Sally Mann: 1000 Crossings at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, and profiles of Michael Wilson and David Drebin.
Since 2019, he has served as a Commissioner of the Malibu Arts Commissioner.
In 1974 he graduated with honors from the Rhode Island School of Design where he studied privately with Harry Callahan for his entire senior year.
Peter C. Jones lives in Malibu with his wife, Charlotte M. Frieze, who is a Fellow of the American Society of Landscape Architects and, for nine years, the Garden Editor of House & Garden magazine published by Condé Nast.
